“Through winter-time we call on spring,
And through the spring on summer call,
And when abounding hedges ring
Declare that winter’s best of all;
And after that there’s nothing good
Because the spring-time has not come….” –William Butler Yeats (1865-1939), from The Wheel
Asparagus. At extreme right are some green onions.
Pea shoots — These are lovely simply stir-fried in peanut oil, with garlic and ginger, or in a pesto with extra-virgin olive oil, lemon juice, cilantro and a whisper of cheese.
Asparagus — Not cheap at $4 a bunch, but they beat out those tired spears from Mexico with the inedible woody ends that you might see at your local supermarket or Wal-Mart.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
Oh lordy, just look at all of the pretty green! And, say now, is that an iPhone in that dude’s pocket??
