The High Line is an elevated park that’s part urban green space, part public art exhibit and completely, quintessentially, New York City.
What is it, you ask?
It’s a 1-mile linear park built on a 1.45-mile (2.33 km) section of the former elevated New York Central Railroad spur called the West Side Line, which runs along the lower west side of Manhattan. It has been redesigned and planted as an aerial greenway.
A similar project in Paris — the nearly 3 mile Coulée verte, completed in 1993 — was the inspiration for this project.
The High Line Park currently runs from Gansevoort Street, three blocks below West 14th Street in the former Meatpacking District, up to West 30th Street, through the neighborhood of Chelsea to the West Side Yard, located near the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
Enjoy.
Thanks! This little “stroll” down the High Line was just what I needed to get through the rest of the afternoon. One of my favorite parks.

That’s so cool! Thanks for posting all the pics as it’ll be a while before I ever get back to NYC. Love all the artwork 🙂 I hope other cities follow suit.

I love the High Line! I saw when they were working on the “WWII kiss” mural. There’s alway something new to see there 🙂
